ABOUT DORCAS
As the former CTC Supervisor and current CTC Director at the SFC Center, Dorcas works with our Communities that Care team. From an early age, she has always been involved in mobilizing communities around issues of inequity and justice, through community, labor, or political organizing, and feels that this is how she can best serve her purpose. Dorcas joined The Foundling because of its long legacy of creating change and empowering communities through its support of the most vulnerable while helping to lay the groundwork for the future; She wanted to be a part of this incredible heritage and aims to be one of the many bridges which will allow Black & Brown youth to navigate a world of new and endless possibilities.
Dorcas, who grew up in Harlem and now lives in the northernmost Bronx, graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & The Performing Arts, where she studied Classical Voice. She went on to study Sociology & Film at Binghamton University and also holds a Bilingual Teaching Certification. For Dorcas, a good book, a great film, or some incredible, life-affirming music is the best recipe for a “breathe-deep” moment of relaxation. Her greatest role model is her mother, Rita: a 4′ 11″ powerhouse, who had a deeply rooted sense of justice, taught compassion and the belief in the sacred nature of all sentient beings.
