SFC MISSION
The Strong Families and Communities Training Center (SFC Center) was established in October, 2020 in partnership with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to support front-line social service workers and community members with techniques to better serve their communities across New York City. As a center focused on supporting community initiatives and community-based organizations, we work with our partners to elevate and empower community voices in all aspects. Moreover, our center provides direct support to those who serve youth and families, while also establishing a network of organizations advocating for child welfare and community development. Through sharing resources and centralizing information, we hope to become a layer of support for navigating social services. The SFC Center strives to integrate ourselves into the community to ensure that community voices are at the forefront of our initiatives.
SFC VISION
Advocacy Training
The Center utilizes the lived experiences of our expert Peer Advisors to coordinate trainings for Youth and Family Peer Advocates throughout New York City. Our advisors work to ensure their trainings are specific to the needs of the Youth and Family Peer Advocates through listening sessions where they participate in dialogue to better identify community needs.
Community Engagement
Through an evidence-based community organizing approach, the SFC Center integrates ourselves into the various communities we serve across New York City. Our Community Organizers are vital in establishing partnerships with key leaders and organizations supporting local communities. Using the Communities that Care model, we work to uplift the community and support initiatives that they see fit.
Implementation Support
The Center provides implementation support to all professionals we teach Evidence-Based Practices to in hopes of establishing consistent quality of care to communities who need it most. Through an engaging and inclusive approach, we collaborate with social-service professionals to increase their understanding of the concepts and expand their perspectives in regard to implementation.
